Icom M324G Fixed Mount VHF Radio with Built-In GPS Receiver
Icom’s M324G VHF radio has all the features that most boaters ask for in a fixed mount VHF and more now because it adds GPS capability. The M324G has a built in GPS that displays your current location and can be used for DSC calls without connecting the radio to a separate source for coordinates as well as built in Class D DSC that allows you to monitor channel 70 even if you are receiving a transmission on another channel. Your DSC functions in the M324G include distress, individual, group, all ships, urgency, safety, position request/report, polling request and DSC test calls.
Using NMEA 0183, the M324G can be connected to a navigational device like a chartplotter to display DSC information on a vessel on the screen of the chartplotter. Connected to an Icom MA-500TR Class B AIS and you now have the capability to now transmit DSC individual calls to a selected vessel instantly without manual MMSI entry. Icom’s M324G has Favorite Channel function that enables the user to “Tag” their favorite channels so they can channel up or down to just those channels. Like current generation VHF radios from Icom the 324G has their “AquaQuake” feature that when activated, if you radio becomes submersed, drains the speaker and mic so you can hear and be heard clearly.
A radio that does not need to be connected to a GPS for position data in the event you have to hit distress and send your location via DSC, and the reliability and ease of operation of an Icom VHF radio, in a compact package, the M324G is an option to look at.
